Severe Storms Expected Across Metro Detroit Tuesday

The greatest chance for severe weather Tuesday will be areas between M-59 and Interstate 94.

Severe thunderstorms will likely move into the Detroit area Tuesday as temperatures again climb toward 70 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms are expected to cross the area sometime late Tuesday evening and continue into early Wednesday morning, the weather service said.

The greatest chance for severe weather will be south of a line from Grand Rapids to Mt. Clemens, specifically areas between M-59 and Interstate 94 in the Detroit area.

Forecasters said the storms could produce heavy rainfall, large hail, winds up to 60 miles per hour and an isolated tornado. They also warned some areas could see up to 2 inches of rain.

Most of southeastern Michigan has been placed under a slight risk (2/5) for severe weather.

Forecasters expect rain showers to linger across the Detroit area through most of Wednesday before cooler air moves into the region. Temperatures will fall into the low 30s during the nighttime hours.

Highs will hover in the 40s for Thursday and Friday with another chance for rain Friday morning, the weather service said.

The cooler air will stick around through the weekend with highs struggling to reach 40 degrees, the weather service said.
