Severe Storms Possible Across Detroit Area Saturday

Severe thunderstorms are expected this weekend across the Detroit area, according to the National Weather Service.

But first, a few rounds of isolated showers and non-severe thunderstorms could cross the region Friday night, according to NWS.

Widespread showers and stronger storms will hit the Detroit area on Saturday.

Forecasters expect the storms to move into the area sometime between 2 and 7 p.m. when highs reach 80 degrees. Those storms will be capable of producing heavy downpours, small hail and winds reaching up to 60 miles per hour, according to NWS.

Most of southeastern Michigan was placed under a marginal (level 1/5) risk for severe weather Saturday.

The storms should fade away during the nighttime hours Saturday when slightly cooler temperatures move into the area, according to NWS.

That front will make for a breezy Sunday with highs in the 70s under plenty of sunshine, according to NWS.

The sunny conditions will continue into early next week with highs hovering around 80 degrees, according to NWS.
