Severe Storms Possible across Detroit Area Thursday As Temps Warm Up

Most of the region is under a slight chance (2/5) for severe weather Thursday.

Severe thunderstorms will be possible across the Detroit area Thursday when temperatures climb back toward the 70s, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms will likely move into the area sometime between 3 and 9 p.m. Thursday, the weather service said.

Forecasters warned the storms will be capable of producing heavy downpours, large hail and strong winds up to 60 miles per hour.

Areas south of Interstate 696 were under a slight chance (2/5) for severe weather while areas north of the freeway were under a marginal threat (1/5) for severe weather Thursday.

Cooler air moves back into the region on Friday, pushing highs below average through the weekend. Highs return to the 60s to start next week, the weather service said.
