Severe Storms, Record Heat, Snow All Possible This Week: MI Weather

Highs are expected in the low 60s Tuesday across southeastern Michigan. The record high for that date is 63 degrees, which was set in 1976.

SOUTHEASTERN MICHIGAN — Multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms with record heat is expected across southeastern Michigan this week, according to the National Weather Service.

High temperatures will hit the low 50s Monday in southeastern Michigan before severe weather and near-record highs move into the region Tuesday, according to the weather service.

Forecasters expect the first wave of thunderstorms to roll into southeastern Michigan late-Monday night into early Tuesday morning. Those storms could bring lightning, heavy rain and isolated hail up to 1 inch in diameter, according to the weather service.

A stronger chance of severe thunderstorms develops Tuesday evening when high temperatures hit the low 60s across southeastern Michigan, according to the weather service.

Forecasters warned those storms can produce heavy rain, large hail up to 1 inch in diameter and damaging wind gusts reaching up to 45 miles per hour across southeastern Michigan. A tornado is also possible for areas south of Interstate 96 toward the Ohio border, according to the weather service.

A third round of thunderstorms is possible across southeastern Michigan early Wednesday morning before the storms clear the region by the early afternoon hours, according to the weather service.

Temperatures across southeastern Michigan will then fall Wednesday afternoon into the 30s and 20s, bringing a chance for light snow showers in the region, according to the weather service.

Most areas in southeastern Michigan will see a rain/snow mix Wednesday evening, while others, especially in the Thumb region, can see light snow accumulations up to no more than a half inch of fresh snow, according to the weather service.

Temperatures stay cold across southeastern Michigan on Thursday, before another warm up with highs reaching the 60s again by early next week, according to the weather service.
