Severe Thunderstorms Can Hit Detroit Area Sunday: NWS

Forecasters warned the storms can produce heavy rainfall, large hail and damaging wind gusts reaching up to 60 miles per hour.

SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN — Multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms can hit southeastern Michigan Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

The first round of storms can hit the region in the early morning hours Sunday, before a second round of storms can move into the area Sunday afternoon and evening when high temperatures climb near 90 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters warned the storms can produce heavy rainfall, large hail and damaging wind gusts reaching up to 60 miles per hour. An isolated tornado also cannot be ruled out, according to the National Weather Service.

Southeastern Michigan is under a marginal risk (Level 1/5) for severe storms Sunday.

Storm chances in southeastern Michigan will bleed over into Monday and Tuesday when high temperatures will hover near 90 degrees with high humidify, according to the National Weather Service.
