Severe Thunderstorms Possible Across Detroit Area Monday: What To Know

A line of severe thunderstorms is expected to hit the Detroit area Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Monday's high will reach the 70s before the storms move into the region sometime between 6 p.m. and midnight, the weather service said.

Forecasters warned the storms may be strong to severe with large hail up to an inch in diameter and winds pushing 60 miles per hour.

Areas south of Interstate 696 (along a line from Lansing to Gross Ile) face the greatest risk for severe weather, the weather service said.

Most of southeastern Michigan is under a marginal risk for severe weather Monday.

The storms will coincide with a moving cold front that will knock temperatures back into the low 60s, the weather service said.

On-and-off rain showers will stick around throughout most of the week with highs hovering around 60 degrees, the weather service said.
