Severe Thunderstorms Possible Tuesday: Metro Detroit Weather
Forecasters warned the thunderstorms could produce large hail and gusty winds up to 60 miles per hour in the Detroit region.
METRO DETROIT — Severe thunderstorms are possible in the metro Detroit area Tuesday evening when a cold front settles across the region, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters expect the storms to begin crossing the area north of Michigan 59 around 2 p.m. before crossing the heart of the metro Detroit area sometime in the early evening hours when temperatures push 90 degrees.
The thunderstorms could produce large hail and gusty winds up to 60 miles per hour in the region, the weather service warned. Forecasters expect any lingering thunderstorms to move out of the area by 9 p.m.

Widespread rain showers are expected in the metro Detroit area Wednesday, as well as more thunderstorm chances in the afternoon hours, according to the weather service.
Forecasters warned the widespread heavy rainfall throughout Wednesday could lead to an inch of rainfall and cause localized flooding in the area. In addition, any thunderstorm that pops up could bring damaging winds, the weather service warned.

Here's the National Weather Service's extended forecast for the metro Detroit area:
Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 88 degrees. Southwest wind 9 to 14 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 22 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
Wednesday: Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 5 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 76 degrees. Northeast wind 6 to 8 miles per hour becoming east southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Thursday: Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 84 degrees. South southwest wind around 11 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 86 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
Saturday: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 84 degrees.
