Snowstorm Could Hit Metro Detroit This Week: Here's How Much Snow Could Fall

Another round of wintry weather could bring several inches of snow to southeastern Michigan this week, the National Weather Service said.

METRO DETROIT — A major winter storm could dump several inches of snow in metro Detroit this week, according to the National Weather Service.

A strong low pressure system is expected to arrive in southeastern Michigan on Friday, bringing widespread precipitation across the region, the weather service said.

Forecasters expect heavy snow across the region Friday morning, before changing over to a wintry mix and rain sometime Friday as temperatures reach 40 degrees, the weather service said.

Forecasters were still working to determine the path of the storm to get a better idea of where the changeover will happen, the weather service said.

If the storm tracks farther north toward the Interstate 69 corridor, snow accumulations in the metro Detroit area will be lighter, possibly less than 1 inch of snow, the weather service said.

However, if the storm stays farther south, most of southeastern Michigan could see between 3 and 6 inches of snow Friday, the weather service said.

"The best probabilities of impactful accumulating snow continues for somewhere over southeastern Michigan into northern lower," the weather service said. "There will be a sharp delineation of the rain/snow line given the track of the low and mild air that will try to lift into the region from the south."
