METRO DETROIT — Two major storms crossing the nation this week will bring several rain chances to the metro Detroit area over the next few days, according to AccuWeather.

After several late-season freeze warnings, the region will see a slight break from the cold Thursday when temperatures reach 60 degrees with plenty of sunshine, the weather service said.

The sunshine won't last long, however, as clouds move into the region Thursday night with scattered rain showers developing into Friday morning, the weather service said.

The scattered rain showers will become more widespread during the afternoon and evening hours as temperatures reach the upper 50s, the weather service said.

AccuWeather forecasters warned some areas in the eastern Great Lakes region, including the Detroit area, could see localized flooding Friday. Some areas in the South can see severe weather, the weather service said.

Overnight scattered rain showers will bleed over into Saturday morning, but should fizzle out during the afternoon hours as temperatures reach the mid 60s in the region, the weather service said.

A second major storm crossing the nation will bring more rain to the metro Detroit area Sunday when temperatures fall back down into the 50s, the weather service said.

Rainfall will fall in waves Sunday across the metro Detroit area, and some portions of northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula can see snow, the weather service said. AccuWeather forecasters warned the weather system could cause delays at Detroit Metro Airport.

The storm system then strengthens Sunday night into Monday as it moves into the northeastern states, where some areas could see 3 to 4 inches of rain over several hours, the weather service said.

More freeze warnings are expected next week as temperatures remain in the 50s with lows dropping into the 30s in the region, the weather service said. AccuWeather forecasters warned the chilly temperatures can hang around the metro Detroit area until the middle and latter part of May.
