Storms Damage Detroit Golf Club Just Before Rocket Mortgage Classic
The golf course was closed to everyone except Rocket Mortgage Classic tournament staff, vendors and PGA Tour personnel, officials said.
DETROIT — The Detroit Golf Club, which is scheduled to host PGA Tour golfers this week for the Rocket Mortgage Classic, was closed Monday after overnight thunderstorms with gusty winds knocked down numerous big trees near the course.
Video posted to social media showed numerous trees and tree limbs down near the parking lot and in front of the clubhouse. Detroit Golf Club officials did not report any major damage to the course.
The course was closed to everyone except Rocket Mortgage Classic tournament staff, vendors and PGA Tour personnel, who are preparing for Detroit's annual PGA Tour tournament, which starts Thursday. The event will be broadcast live on Golf Channel and CBS.
