Teen Charged In Robbery, Fatal Shooting Of 15-Year-Old Detroit Boy: Prosecutor

DETROIT — A teen has been charged in connection with the robbery and murder of a 14-year-old boy in Detroit, according to prosecutors.

The incident happened at 1:45 a.m. on Sept. 13 in the 7300 block of Brace Street, near the Southfield Freeway, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said a 15-year-old boy robbed the younger boy of his backpack before firing a handgun, striking him in the head.

Officers arrived and found the 14-year-old boy unresponsive. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died, according to police.

The 15-year-old boy turned himself in to police four days later, according to police.

He was charged with one count each of first-degree murder, felony murder, armed robbery, two counts of lying to a police officer and three counts of felony firearm, according to police.

The teen is not being charged as an adult but has been adult-designated, which means he could be sentenced as either a teen or adult if convicted.

His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 29.
