A Detroit teen is facing charges after he was shot and injured by a police officer last Thursday night during a confrontation, police said.

DETROIT — A Detroit teen is facing charges after he was shot and injured by a police officer last Thursday night during a confrontation, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

The 16-year-old boy was charged with receiving and concealing a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon. He was placed in jail on a $3,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for May 29.

Prosecutors said officers saw the teen carrying a concealed weapon in the area of Fenkell Avenue and Brammel Street at 9:30 p.m. on April 4. When officers approached the teen, he ran away and officers started chasing him, according to the prosecutor's office.

During the foot chase an officer "observed the juvenile respondent with his hand on the weapon," according to the prosecutor's office.

That's when prosecutors said an officer fired shots, striking the teen in the leg, according to the prosecutor's office.

The teen was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released, according to the prosecutor's office.

No officers were injured in the incident, according to the prosecutor's office.

Police told FOX 2 Detroit that the officer who fired the shots will be placed on administrative leave, pending further investigation into the case. Police also told the outlet they will also release any relevant dash-cam and body camera footage.
