Thunderstorm Chances Across Metro Detroit Thursday Afternoon

The National Weather Service said some storms could produce wind gusts up 50 miles per hour, heavy downpours and dangerous lightning.

METRO DETROIT — Thunderstorms are expected to sweep across the Metro Detroit area Thursday afternoon as temperatures reach the mid 80s, the National Weather Service said.

The first round of storms to cross the area sometime between 5 and 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Although meteorologists are not expecting any kind of severe weather, they said some storms could produce wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour, heavy downpours and dangerous lightning.

A second round of thunderstorms is expected to cross the Metro Detroit area during the nighttime hours sometime after 8 p.m., bringing the possibility of high winds and heavy downpours, the National Weather Service said.

The thunderstorms and rain showers are expected to stall out overnight, leaving just spotty showers Friday morning, leading to a comfortable start to the weekend with temperatures hovering around 80 degrees, the National Weather Service said.

Saturday will be a near repeat with temperatures reaching 80 degrees under mostly sunny skies, the National Weather Service said. Sunday will be a touch warmer with highs reaching the mid 80s under mostly sunny skies, before more rain and thunderstorms chances Monday, the National Weather Service said.
