Tornadoes, 60 MPH Winds, Large Hail Possible Across Detroit Area Friday

All of southeastern Michigan was under a marginal threat (level 1/5) for severe weather Friday.

Severe thunderstorms are possible across the Detroit area Friday as temperatures warm up, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms will likely move into the area sometime between 3 and 10 p.m. Friday with temperatures in the 50s, the weather service said.

Forecasters warned the storms could produce heavy downpours, hail up to 1 inch in diameter and strong wind gusts reaching up to 60 miles per hour. Isolated tornadoes will also be possible across some areas.

More storms are possible Saturday morning with even warmer temperatures. The storms should clear out by the afternoon hours, but scattered showers will hang around with highs pushing 70 degrees across the region, the weather service said.

Above-average temperatures are expected across the Detroit area through at least the first part of next week, the weather service said.
