Tornado, Hail, 60 MPH Winds Could Hit Monday: MI Weather

The storms are expected to cross the Detroit area sometime between 2 and 10 p.m.

SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN — Severe weather is expected to hit southeastern Michigan Monday afternoon amid another oppressively hot and humid day, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms are expected to move into southeastern Michigan sometime between 2 and 10 p.m. Monday afternoon when temperatures reach the upper 80s. Elevated humidity levels will make it feel at least 10 degrees warmer, according to the weather service.

National Weather Weather forecasters warned the storms can produce heavy downpours, large hail 1 inch or larger, damaging winds reaching up to 60 miles per hour and an isolated tornado.

Areas between Michigan 59 and Interstate 94 face a marginal risk (level 1 out of 5) for severe thunderstorms Monday, while areas south of Interstate 94 toward the Ohio border face a slight risk (level 2 out of 5) for severe weather.

High temperatures will tumble into the 60s Tuesday across southeastern Michigan as more comfortable and drier air moves into the region, according to the weather service.

High temperatures will then hover around 80 degrees with comfortable humidity levels through the rest of the week across southeastern Michigan, according to the weather service.
