Tornado, Large Hail, 60 MPH Winds Possible Across Detroit Area Tuesday

The Storm Prediction Center has placed the region under a slight risk (2 out of 5) for severe weather.

More thunderstorms are likely across the metro Detroit area on Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms will move into the region sometime between 2 and 11 p.m. when highs climb into the 70s across the region, the weather service said.

Forecasters warned the storms could produce heavy downpours, large hail greater than 1 inch, winds up to 60 miles per hour and even an isolated tornado.

Areas south of Interstate 69 are at greatest risk for severe weather.

Temperatures across the region will drop into the 40s after the storms move through and struggle to hit 50 degrees on Wednesday, the weather service said.

Highs will warm back into the upper 60s on Thursday with another chance for severe thunderstorms. Those storms will likely hit west of Interstate 75 across the region.

Highs will move back into the 70s on Friday, which is the Detroit Tigers home opener. There will be chances for rain sometime in the afternoon, the weather service said.

Temperatures will stay in the 70s on Saturday with another chance for thunderstorms before highs fall down into the 50s for Easter Sunday, the weather service said.
