Tornadoes, Hail, Damaging Winds Likely Across Michigan Wednesday

Areas south of Interstate 69 and toward the Ohio border are under a slight risk (level 2 of 5) for severe weather Wednesday afternoon.

SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN — Severe thunderstorms are possible along multiple waves of rain Wednesday across southeastern Michigan, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday will be sunny and clear with highs reaching the mid 60s before the first wave of rain arrives in southeastern Michigan overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

The rain should warp up sometime Wednesday morning before returning along with a broken line of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening hours when highs climb toward 70 degrees across southeastern Michigan, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters warned the thunderstorms can be severe with heavy downpours, large hail up to 1 inch in diameter, wind gusts reaching up to 60 miles per hour and even a tornado cannot be ruled out, according to the National Weather Service.

There is also a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) for excessive rainfall across southeastern Michigan on Wednesday. Rainfall totals could be anywhere from a half inch to more than an inch, sparking concerns for minor flooding in some areas, according to the National Weather Service.

Any lingering rain showers or thunderstorms should clear out of southeastern Michigan by Thursday morning when highs climb back toward 70 degrees under cloudy skies, according to the National Weather Service.

There's more rain chances Friday before a cooler and more mild weekend with highs in the 50s across southeastern Michigan, according to the National Weather Service.
