Tornadoes, Large Hail, 60 MPH Winds Possible Across Detroit Area Thursday

The storms will move into the area during the afternoon hours when highs reach the 60s, according to the National Weather Service.

Severe storms are possible across the metro Detroit area Thursday as temperatures warm up, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms will develop sometime between 3 and 8 p.m. when highs climb toward the 70s across the region, the weather service said.

Forecasters warned the storms could produce heavy downpours, large hail greater than 2 inches, strong winds exceeding 60 miles per hour and isolated tornadoes.

The greatest chance for severe storms will be along and south of Interstate 94, though the storms will impact areas between Interstate 94 and M-59, the weather service said.

The storms will move out of the region during the late evening hours when cooler air from the north arrives, the weather service said.

Highs will struggle to reach 40 degrees Friday, before another warming trend will eventually push temperatures back into the 60s by early next week, the weather service said.
