U.S. House Blocks Censure Measure Against Detroit Rep. Rashida Tlaib
Twenty-three Republicans, including multiple from Michigan, joined 199 Democrats to kill the resolution.
WASHINGTON D.C., — The U.S. House rejected a measure Wednesday to censure U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Detroit, for comments a fellow representative said were anti-Semitic.
U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., introduced the resolution calling for the censure after she accused Tlaib of "anti-Semitic activity" and "sympathizing with terrorist organizations" following the attacks by Hamas last month were antisemitic.
"Tlaib led a pro-Hamas insurrection into the Capitol complex, has repeatedly displayed her anti-Semitic beliefs, and shown her hatred for Israel," Greene wrote on X. "She must be held accountable and censured."

The "insurrection" Greene accused Tlaib of leading happened on Oct. 18 at the Capitol complex where thousands of people gathered in the Cannon Office Building rotunda and outside on the National Mall calling for an end to the Israel-Hamas war.
"To our president, I want him to know, as a Palestinian American who is also somebody of Muslim faith, I’m not going to forget this. And I think a lot of people are not going to forget this," Tlaib said. "It’s like it doesn’t even matter. And that’s what’s been really painful [to] just continue to watch people think it’s OK to bomb a hospital with children."

An investigation later found Israel was not responsible for the deadly hospital blast, but that the explosion was likely caused by a misfired rocket by the militant group Islamic Jihad.
Before Wednesday night's vote, Tlaibslammed Greene's measure as "unhinged" and "deeply Islamophobic."
"I am proud to stand in solidarity with Jewish peace advocates calling for a ceasefire and an end to the violence," Tlaib wrote in a statement. "I will not be bullied, I will not be dehumanized, and I will not be silenced. I will continue to call for ceasefire, for the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid, for the release of hostages and those arbitrarily detained, and for every American to be brought home."
Tlaib also urged the Biden administration to do more to save civilian lives in Gaza ahead of an expected Israeli ground invasion.
Twenty-three Republicans, including Michigan U.S. Reps. Bill Huizenga, of Holland Township, John Moolenaar, of Caledonia, and Tim Walberg, of Tipton, joined 199 Democrats to kill the resolution. Three state Republicans − U.S. Reps. Jack Bergman of Watersmeet, John James of Shelby Township and Lisa McClain of Bruce Township − voted to keep Greene's censure resolution alive.
