Here are some warming centers in opening up in Wayne County ahead of a powerful winter storm and dangerously cold temperatures.
WAYNE COUNTY, MI — A powerful winter storm is set to slam metro Detroit with heavy snowfall and wind gusts reaching up to 50 miles per hour just as an arctic blast settles in the area, forecasters warned.
The strong wind gusts have become the focal point of the storm because they have the potential to knock out power to hundreds and thousands of people in the metro area with wind chills dropping to -15 degrees Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
