It's too early to tell how much snow will accumulate in the metro area, but if the changeover happens early enough, there could be a couple of inches of fresh snow by Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters expect other parts of Michigan can see more snowfall. Areas in west Michigan can see between 3 and 6 inches of fresh snow with strong winds coming off Lake Michigan reaching up to 40 miles per hour, creating whiteout conditions, according to local forecasters.

Higher snow totals are also expected in the central and norther parts of Michigan, especially if the storm shifts more toward the north, according to local forecasters.
