Well-Known Detroit Neurosurgeon Found Shot Dead In Home: Police

Police were conducting a wellness check Sunday when they found the man dead inside his home in the Boston-Edison district, police said.

DETROIT — A well-known Detroit neurosurgeon was found dead Sunday in his home, police said.

Officers were conducting a welfare check when they found the 53-year-old man shot to death with multiple gunshot wounds in his home on W. Boston Boulevard near Woodward Avenue in the city's Boston Edison Historic District, police said.

Police did not identify a shooter or motive, or provide any other details about the shooting.

Police did not identify the man, but Ascension Hospital, which operates St. John Hospital in Detroit, identified Dr. Devon Hoover as the victim in a statement.

"Devon Hoover, MD, was a dedicated and well respected member of the Ascension Michigan family and will be greatly missed by out community," an Ascension Michigan spokesperson said. "Our sincerest condolence and heartfelt prayers are with his family, friends and fellow associated during this incredibly difficult time."

Hoover was a certified neurosurgeon with a special interest in neck and back disorders, according to his profile on Ascension Michigan.

Police were still investigating the shooting.
