Wind Advisory Before Rain, Snow: Metro Detroit Weather
Forecasters warned wind gusts could reach up to 50 miles per hour in the metro Detroit area on Wednesday.
METRO DETROIT — Wind gusts could reach up to 50 miles per hour Wednesday in metro Detroit, as temperatures warm to nearly 60 degrees, the National Weather Service warned.
The wind advisory is in effect for most of southeastern Michigan from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Steady southwest winds will blow 20 to 30 miles per hour with isolated gusts reaching up to 50 miles per hour, the National Weather Service warned.
Temperatures cool back down into the 30s Thursday, as a low pressure system will move into metro Detroit Thursday afternoon, bringing rain that will eventually transition over to snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters expect the rain to start falling in the metro Detroit area around 2 p.m. The rain will then transition into a freezing rain/sleet mix during the Thursday evening commute, according to the National Weather Service.
The system will then turn into all snow after 11 p.m. when temperatures dip into the 20s, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters expect less than 1 inch of overnight snow.

Here's the NWS's extended metro Detroit forecast:
Wednesday: A slight chance of rain before 11 a.m. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 58 degrees. Windy, with a west southwest wind 24 to 28 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 45 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
Thursday: Rain, mainly after 2 p.m. Steady temperature around 36 degrees. Northeast wind 7 to 15 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 22 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of 1 inch possible.
Thursday night: Rain and snow, becoming all snow after 11 p.m, then gradually ending. Low around 23 degrees. Blustery, with a north northwest wind 15 to 20 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 30 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 29 degrees. Blustery, with a northwest wind 11 to 20 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 29 miles per hour.
Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 44 degrees. Breezy.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 48 degrees.
