Winter Storm Watch: Metro Detroit, 8-14 Inches Of Snow This Week

METRO DETROIT — Metro Detroit could see more than a foot of snow this week, the National Weather Service warned Monday.
A winter storm watch was issued by the weather service for metro Detroit on Wednesday and Thursday, and meteorologists said the area could see "long duration snowfall."
After a dry and cold Monday with highs in the upper 20s, the "high impact" weather system will begin with rain on Tuesday night, as temperatures reach the low 40s, the weather Service said.

The rain will then transition to snow overnight into Wednesday morning and continue snowing throughout the day, with accumulations of about 6 inches, the weather service said. Wednesday's high will reach the low 30s.
There will be more snow Thursday, with an expected 4 to 8 inches of new snow in metro Detroit, which makes the two day total 8-14 inches of new snow, the National Weather Service said. The snow will finally fade away Thursday night into Friday morning.

A winter storm watch was also issued for other portions of southeastern Michigan, including Sanilac, Shiawassee, Genesee, Lapeer, St. Clair, Livingston, Lenawee, Monroe and Washtenaw counties.
Friday will be calm, but arctic air returns, with highs only reaching the upper teens and consistent wind chills keeping temperatures at or below zero.
