New Armenian Cafe, Bakery Opens In Oakland County

SOUTHFIELD, MI — A new Armenian cafe and bakery is now open in Oakland County.

Palu Cafe, located at 29225 Greenfield Road in Southfield, is now open and planning to hold a grand opening on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m.

The new cafe is described as Michigan's first Armenian cafe and bakery. The menu offers traditional Armenian cuisine, such as lahmajoun, za'atar bread, Armenian coffee, espresso drinks and various baked goods.

Khatchig Kafafian opened Palu Cafe in honor of his late wife, May Kafafian, who was a prominent member of the Armenian community. Her family roots trace back to the town of Palu.

"Created in her memory, Palu Café is envisioned as a gathering place, a home away from home for all Armenians, and a welcoming space for anyone interested in experiencing Armenian culture," a Palu Cafe news release reads. "It is a place where stories are shared, traditions are honored and connections are built over food and coffee."
