This fall, Pontiac audiences will step into the heart of disco history as Hallelujah Disco, starring legendary DJ and cultural icon Nicky Siano, comes to the stage for a limited engagement at The PLAT.
Part concert, part theatrical storytelling experience, Hallelujah Disco transports audiences back to the electric energy of 1970s New York, tracing the rise of disco from underground clubs to the legendary dance floors of Studio 54. Through music, live performance, and firsthand stories from one of the movement’s original architects, the production explores the cultural revolution that forever changed nightlife, music, fashion, and identity.
Following sold-out performances globally prior to the COVID-19 pandemic that included Central Park, New York, NY and Albert Hall in Manchester, England, the production is now debuting a new updated version in Pontiac. Producers say the city was intentionally chosen because of its rich cultural history, diversity, resilience, and deep sense of community—qualities that closely reflect the spirit and inclusiveness at the heart of disco itself.
The new production is produced by Michigan native Heidi Hedquist and directed by Luke Poling, director of the acclaimed documentary Plimpton! Starring George Plimpton as Himself. Together, with Siano, the creative team is bringing a renewed theatrical vision to the production while preserving the authenticity and emotional impact of disco’s history and cultural influence.
The production also features iconic songs performed live by a gospel chorus, and organizers are currently seeking to collaborate with talented local singers and performers from the Pontiac and greater Detroit area to help bring the show’s uplifting energy and community spirit to life.
More than a musical genre, disco became a powerful force for visibility, inclusion, and self-expression—creating spaces where LGBTQ+ communities, Black and Latino artists, and people from all walks of life could come together in celebration and freedom. Hallelujah Disco honors that legacy while inviting audiences to experience the joy, energy, and spirit that made the era unforgettable.
“Disco was never just about music,” said Nicky Siano. “It was about connection, liberation, and creating spaces where everyone could belong. This show brings those stories and that feeling back to life.”
Known as one of the founding DJs of the disco movement, Siano helped shape the sound and culture of iconic New York clubs before becoming one of the original DJs at Studio 54. His influence continues to resonate across music, nightlife, and popular culture decades later. Siano had a major global club hit in 2025 with Annie & the Caldwells, Wrong (You Dropped a Bomb) Extended Wooden Dance Floor Mix and sells out venues as a DJ worldwide.
The Pontiac production offers an intimate, immersive theater experience that combines live music, storytelling, visuals, and audience interaction, creating a night that is equal parts performance, celebration, and cultural history.
