Road crews are preparing to start a major two-year construction project on 12 Mile Road in Oakland County.
Crews will rebuild roughly six miles of the road between Novi and Farmington roads, according to the road commission.
The project will be split into two phases, with the first section (Drake Road to Farmington Road) starting on July 13.
Crews will then start work on 12 Mile Road from Novi to Haggerty roads on Aug. 3.
This phase of the project is expected to be completed by mid-November.
Road officials said one lane in each direction will remain open during the construction. Additionally, access to homes and businesses will be maintained.
The second phase of the project will be between Haggerty and Drake roads. That work is expected to start in spring 2027. Additional details about the 2027 construction plans will be announced at a later date.
The overall project includes:
The major road carries between 28,000 and 30,000 vehicles daily between Farmington Road and Novi roads, officials said.
The contractor for the project is Cadillac Asphalt of Farmington Hills.
The $12 million project will be paid with federal funds and contributions from RCOC, Farmington Hills, Novi and Oakland County (through the Tri-Party Program).
