10 Things to Know About the Downtown Fenton Streetscape Project
Stay Informed About Downtown Construction, Detours, Parking, Access to Businesses, Events and More for Fenton Streetscape 2015
1. Work Schedule:
Improvements begin in April and continue through November 2015 with street closures. Project restoration will continue in Spring 2016 with limited street closures, and should have a minimal effect on traffic.
2. Work Location:
Construction zone will be on Shiawassee from Adelaide to Leroy; and on Leroy from Elizabeth to Second, with resurfacing work on Elizabeth, Mill, Caroline, Ellen and River.
3. Work:
The project includes replacing water and sewer mains on Shiawassee and Leroy Streets. Reconstruction of sidewalks on Shiawassee and Leroy will make them more walkable and improve aesthetics. Mill, Caroline, Ellen and River Streets will be resurfaced, and will also include some aesthetic improvements.
4. One-Way Traffic:
On Shiawassee at Adelaide, traffic will be Eastbound-only. Traffic will be Northbound-only on Leroy beginning at Elizabeth Street to Silver Lake Road. During the first phase of construction, Leroy on the north side of the Shiawassee River bridge will be open to two-way traffic.
5. Post Office:
Mill Street will be open to two-way traffic during the construction and the U.S. Postal Service drop box, located mid-block on Mill Street, will be temporarily moved to the post office driveway.
6. Downtown Businesses:
Downtown Businesses will be OPEN! Please continue patronizing these businesses during construction.
7. Access to Businesses:
Parking lots, temporary sidewalks will be available for shopping and dining, and doing business Downtown
8. Project Funding:
The Streetscape is a $5 Million project. 60% of the project ($3 Million) is funded by the City of Fenton DDA. The remaining 40% ($2 Million) is funded by grants through the State of Michigan and Federal Highway Fund.
9. Downtown Events:
Join the fun and catch the momentum, as Downtown will continue to host annual events as we have in years past, except Back-to-the-Bricks which will temporarily be relocated.
