2014 Fenton ArtWalk Artist Gilford 'Gil' A. Goodrow to Appear at Red Fox Footwear July 12

Residence: Linden, MI

How did you get started as an artist?: I had wonderful parents who gave us the opportunity to enjoy music and image making. It seems like there was always a movie or still camera at family gatherings, and watching the old 8mm home movies as a family is something I will never forget.

Describe your art: My photography is focused on texture and light. While my projects may seem diverse (human bodyscapes, studio constructed fabricscapes, alternative printing processes or my current flora series), they all come back to capturing-or creating-light and texture. With all the bad things going on in the world today, I would hope to bring an escape of some kind and let the viewerʼs mind wander for a bit.

What is your next project?: I am in the process of remodeling my darkroom to concentrate on alternative photographic printing processes. Primarily cyanotype, salt print and Van Dyke Brown.

Where can your art be found?: www.gilgart.com

Do you belong to any art organizations?: The Greater Flint Arts Council

What inspires you?: My family, an appreciation for life, and music. I have had a rough couple years personally, and it has had a major influence on my art. I have gone from a very personal and involved digital project (ʼ12 Monthsʻ fabricscapes), to one of the most basic photographic processes (ʻLumenʻ flora series). I see this as starting over, and am extremely excited to see where it takes me.
