2014 Fenton ArtWalk Artist Inez Slaubuagh to Appear at Fenton Community & Cultural Center July 12
Residence: Grand Blanc MI
Type of art: Mixed Media
How did you get started as an artist?: As a child, I wanted to be an artist and a physician. I concentrated my efforts in my general surgery career until I developed a muscle myopathy in my late 40's and was forced to retire. I went from working 100 hours a week to being unable to walk without a walker at that point.. My mind , however, would not stop and I had to do something to take my mind off myself and occupy my time. So I began taking my first art classes ever - small classes, national workshops, continuing education classes at Ringling College of Art and Design.
Describe your art: I enjoy the use of color and texture to express mood. Although I do some realistic pieces, I now most enjoy abstract or semi-abstractions as a means of evoking an emotional response to the piece by the viewer. I feel that art should be enjoyed at an emotional level as well as on an intellectual level. I started with oil, then acrylics, then watercolor and pastels. Now I work mainly in wax and inks and often times a mixture of media.
Where can your art be found?: I was featured at Genesys Health System in June, will be at St. Paul's Episcopal for Flint's September Art Walk and Fandangle's in December.
Do you belong to any art organizations?: I belong to Greater Flint Art Council, Lapeer Area Artists, Grand Blanc Art Council, Shiawassee Art Council, Sarasota Art Council, and Flushing Artists' Network as well as LAVA.
