4th Annual Fenton ArtWalk Attracts Community Volunteer Spirit

FENTON, MI – Mark your calendar to attend the 4th Annual Fenton ArtWalk on Saturday, July 12th 2014, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Downtown Fenton and stay in town for even more fun at the After Glow from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The Fenton ArtWalk will be held back to back with the 13th annual Bastille Day Race hosted by The Laundry from 7:45 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The Fenton ArtWalk, a delightful community event celebrating arts and culture, grows every year, and this year is no exception. It's overflowing with creative energy and community support and many artful volunteers!

ArtWalk will run from The Laundry at the corner of Shiawassee and Adelaide in Dibbleville, then north on Leroy to the Biggby Coffee and Kimberly Kay Furniture near The Fenton Hotel.

The kids will absolutely love the FREE face painting at Pipsqueak Boutique on Adelaide and festive FREE balloon art at St. Jude's Episcopal Church on Elizabeth. Be sure to stop in at Edward Jones, on Mill Street, welcoming back the Fenton ArtWalk with fabulous fun in store. They will give FREE smoothies to the first 100 guests served from the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Tiki Bar, along live music and hands-on art project. Stop by Billmeier Camera and place your vote at the Billmeier Photography competition, and remember to vote for your favorite storefront window decor on the City of Fenton Facebook page.

Live entertainment and fun activities for the whole family will be featured throughout the event. Biggby Coffee will host storytelling. A Joyful Noise will present Kids Rock at the State Bank stage, with Cedar & Reed, FIRE, and The Heard. The Sundowners and Fenton Community Orchestra will perform at the Fenton Community & Cultural Center outdoor stage. The strolling Sweet Adelines chorus will sing a cappella and the “Living Art” program of Corunna High School Art Club living statues will appear around town for added enjoyment. Michael Kassel will be back to play ukulele at Crust and the Boy's & Girl's Club of Greater Flint Steel Band will play the steel drums at Vek's Garage, filling the air with festive summertime ambiance. The Fenton Village Players will feature characters from "Shrek" downtown and Fairytale skits at the Fenton Community & Cultural Center. Fenton Films presents "Fenton Cinema" with FREE popcorn inside City Hall.

The Fenton Jack R. Winegarden Library has opened its doors to ArtWalk again this year. Kids K-12 are invited to submit matted mixed media artwork to the Library with name, grade & title of piece by July 9th to be displayed in the Children's Center. And during ArtWalk on the 12th, kids of all ages can create a rainbow collage at the Library. The Fenton United Methodist Church will also host a craft table for the kids, Be a Part of the Art- Iconic Art Photo Opps., the Artzy Shoe Prize Exhibit and refreshments. 

Over 50 talented artists are scheduled to participate and will display and sell their art in unique storefront venues. In addition to local Fenton artists, the ArtWalk has attracted fine artists from across the region. Visitors can enjoy strolling through town, and stopping in 31 different businesses and community locations to see and shop everything from paintings and photography to sculpture, jewelry, literature and more!

Stop by the Info booth and take a map to enhance your cultural experience with a walking tour of the public art sculptures downtown.

The Lakes Area Visual Artists will return to show artwork and host kids art projects at the Fenton Community and Cultural Center on Leroy, and have coordinated the fun art competitions and a spectacular After Glow celebration to enhance Fenton ArtWalk. Beginning at 4pm the fun continues with music, art competition awards presentations, food artistry, and ice sculptures, all leading up to an amazing Chef Throw Down at 6pm featuring; Fenton Fire Hall, Sweet Variations, Crust, and The Laundry!
