Dear Editor,
Many experts agree the key to restoring economic prosperity in Michigan depends on keeping college-educated people living here. Recent studies have found that today’s college-educated people want to live in cities that offer alternatives to driving a car. They want effective transportation options like those offered in Chicago, Minneapolis, Boston, Madison, Dallas, Austin, and Charlotte.
In fact, effective transportation systems help attract and retain residents and workers of all ages. Research consistently demonstrates that people across the nation are choosing communities that offer various modes of transportation and easy access to the places where they live, work and play.

Michigan roads are among the worst in the nation, and our state’s public transit options are few. Gov. Rick Snyder has proposed a program to fund the state’s urgently needed road and bridge repairs, and improvements to the state’s public transit options. Please ask our state elected officials to focus on increased funding for all forms of transportation and to support the sharing of revenue that local governments receive to help build communities where people want to live.
