Kettering University awards Lake Fenton student at FIRST Nationals

Everett Owen, a senior at Lake Fenton High School, was recognized for receiving a FIRST Robotics scholarship from Kettering University during FIRST Nationals in St. Louis, Mo., April 26.

Owen is part of the Lake Fenton Hazmat team that competed at Nationals April 25-27 in the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.

“I started with FIRST in eighth grade, and knew right away that it was for me," said Owen, who plans to major in Mechanical Engineering at Kettering and will co-op for ESE, LLC in Lapeer, Mich. "I love taking ideas and concepts and actually building them and seeing them come to life.”

FIRST scholarships, totaling $22,500 over 4.5 years of school, are awarded yearly by Kettering University to admitted students who participated in FIRST, submit two letters of recommendation and write a one-page essay highlighting their leadership skills and how FIRST helped prepare them for a professional career path.
