The Michigan House today approved a resolution sponsored by State Rep. Joseph Graves declaring April 2013 as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month in the state of Michigan.
House Resolution 84 draws attention to the impact of rape and sexual assault on people of all racial, cultural and economic backgrounds.
"There is a prevalence of sexual violence in our state that we cannot ignore, that is why we are taking action to prevent further cases from occurring," said Graves, R- Argentine Twp. "This month is intended to bring awareness to this very important issue so that citizens are educated and in a better position to avert sexual assault as well as hold perpetrators responsible."
