Local financial services firm Shard Financial Services Inc. and Midwest Soccer Academy hosted a Fenton Regional Chamber of Commerce (FRCC) “Networking at Noon” event on Thursday, March 21 in their offices, located in Lakewinds Plaza.
This event brings local business leaders together for an afternoon of networking, food, and door prizes. Husband and wife Tony Shard of Midwest Soccer Academy and Margie Shard of Shard Financial Services Inc. teamed up to make the event a success.

While attendees enjoyed food catered by Cranberries Café, Tony and Margie took to the mic in order to spread their message to the community. Tony spoke on the mission of fighting childhood obesity, a growing concern in communities across the nation. He also touched on the importance of ending bullying.

“I think that our coaches need to be leaders and the more we bring attention to the problem of bullying and communicate our expectations to our players, as a group we can help raise awareness. I do not want anti bullying to just be a ‘cool slogan’. We work with thousands of children in this county and we can make a difference.”
When Margie Shard spoke, her message was that of educating women about finances. She cited shocking statistics, such as single mothers being 68 percent more likely to live in poverty than single dads, and 90 percent of women feeling financially insecure.
“I try to help women achieve their goals whenever I can. I believe that sometimes all we need is a little push, and someone to believe in us to help us get to where we want to go. Educating women about finances is a HUGE passion of mine because of what I see on a daily basis.”
After speeches were over, the event’s 100+ attendees enjoyed door prizes and learned about future events from the Chamber before having the chance to introduce themselves and their business to the crowd. Chamber representatives stated that this was one of the largest “Networking at Noon” events they had seen.
