Eat Responsibly

Why are we the only species on the planet that doesn't know what to eat?

We’re reminded to drink responsibly, but when it comes to eating I guess all bets are off.  We wander aimlessly down the supermarket aisles, searching through our coupons to try to save money. We watch the glitzy ads on television promising us good health in a box, and we believe it. We look at labels for calorie counts, but ignore the ingredients made from chemicals in a lab.

That’s crazy.

We rely on the USDA (that’s United Stated Department of AGRICULTURE) to provide us with guidelines for healthy eating, instead of doing a little research to realize that all those “heart-healthy whole grains” are intolerable (at best) for most people, and just make the rest of us fat and depressed. We consume boxes of cereal, possibly the worst product on supermarket shelves, as long as the box has a “heart-healthy” stamp, even if it’s loaded with sugar.

We’ve bought into the notion that fat makes us fat, so we look for low-fat labels and wonder why we’re living in a country with insane obesity rates.

We’ve listened to the advice, and it isn’t working. Maybe it’s time to make a change.
