Fenton, Linden Officials Honor Sen. Carl Levin at National League of Cities Conference

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Several Fenton area officials were in Washington D.C. this week for the National League of Cities Congressional City Conference. During the Conference, the Michigan Municipal League contingent met with U.S. Sen. Carl Levin and had the opportunity to thank him for his years of service in the Senate. Levin announced last week that he will not seek a seventh term in Congress in 2014 after serving 34 years in office.

Among those attending the NLC Conference as part of the Michigan Municipal League contingent are Linden Mayor David Lossing, President of the Michigan Municipal League Board; Fenton Mayor Sue Osborn; Fenton Councilmember Patricia Lockwood, former League President; Fenton City Manager Lynn Markland; as well as Michigan Municipal League CEO Daniel Gilmartin and League staff Samantha Harkins and Summer Minnick.

In addition to meeting with Sen. Levin, the group also met with U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow and attended education training sessions on an array of topics, including transportation funding, building public private partnerships, generating community engagement, reducing violence in the community, and conflict management. Some of the keynote speakers during the conference were Vice President Joe Biden; U.S. Senator John McCain; Kathleen Sebelius, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services; Shaun Donovan, U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development; Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Tom Vilsack, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture; the Rev. Al Sharpton; Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter; Washington D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray; and Janet Napolitano, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
