The University of Michigan-Flint is joining with Longway Planetarium and the Seven Ponds Astronomy Club to bring AstroNite to the UM-Flint campus and community on Saturday, October 24, from 7-10pm as part of National Astronomy Day activities.

This family-oriented event, presented in an “open house” style, is a free and fun way for all ages to celebrate astronomy. Activities will explore rainbow forensics, planetary science, telescopes and other instruments, stars, cosmology, and more through hands-on learning, games, and crafts.

Students and faculty members of UM-Flint will be working at the various stations where AstroNite attendees can make a comet, create and examine craters, design their own rockets, explore light, and use telescopes to gaze at the night sky (weather permitting). This is just a small sample of the activities that will be offered!

Dr. Rajib Ganguly, Assistant Professor of Physics, says, “I hope kids and their parents come with an open mind, and take away from the experience both our sense of awe, and our sense of ‘Hey, we can make sense out of all this! That is awesome!’”
