After going up by 12 points midway through the third quarter, the girls' basketball team didn't want a repeat performance of what happened down the stretch against Holly Tuesday.
Against the Bronchos, Fenton led most of the game and had a six point lead heading into the fourth, but Holly held them to just four fourth quarter points and won to pull within a game of Fenton for second place in the Metro League.
Swartz Creek's Gabby Dearing made things interesting, hitting three 3-pointers in the second half, including one from nearly half court at the third quarter buzzer, and the Dragons got within four in the fourth quarter, but Fenton (14-4, 12-3 Metro League) held on for a 47-42 win.

"I thought the game was going very well, we were playing good defense but made some silly mistakes," said Fenton coach Brad DeWitt. "We came back from it, and shot free throws well down the stretch, and that's what quality teams have to do."
Julie Gilbert was the only Fenton player in double figures, scoring 12. Jailen Judson had eight and Payton Maxheimer, Gabrielle Rivette and Alyssa Ostrowski had six each.

Fenton has two games remaining in the regular season, against Flint Southwestern and Brandon next week. DeWitt is happy his team has played in some competitive games with the playoffs around the corner.
"I think you have to check your heart and see what you're made of (in games like this)," DeWitt said. "It helps you have confidence to know that you can win or close out close games."
