Lake Fenton Baseball Sweeps Byron

Blue Devils improve to 6-0 with victories against Byron.

It's been a cold, wet season for the baseball team.

However, the Blue Devils have made the most of it. The squad improved to 6-0 Thursday with a 10-0, 14-6 sweep of Byron.

Lake Fenton used two four-run innings to help them romp past the Eagles in the six-inning opener and then had nine batters score on either a wild pitch or a walk in the nightcap.

Senior left fielder Mitch Kirk led off the third inning before the next two batters, Spencer Quick and Devin Evans were hit by pitches. Jim Lyons then reached on an error, while Wyatt Wilson and Tim Hooks walked. Junior second baseman Tyler Hammond then came up with a hit, clearing the bases. Four runs scored on two hits, one error, two walked batters and two batters hit by pitches.

Kirk finished the first game 3-for-4 from the plate with three singles and three runs. Eight Lake Fenton batters drew walks. Blue Devils pitcher Blake Bordeau pitched all six innings, striking out three and allowing just two hits and one walk. He also got eight Eagles batters to fly out.

In the second game, which Lake Fenton coach Hewitt Judson called "ugly," Byron jumped out to an early 5-2 lead after the first four batters of the third inning all scored. However, the Blue Devils were able feast on the Eagles miscues the rest of the game to get the victory.

Kirk again had a good game finishing 1-for-2 with three runs scored and two walks. Kyle Felix, of Lake Fenton, was the only player with a RBI. His sixth inning bloop to shallow left scored two.
