Lake Fenton Soccer Unable to Hang With Linden

Eagles score two second half goals to defeat Blue Devils 2-1.

The girls soccer teams was unable to fend off the attack of Linden’s Mary-Kathryn Fiebernitz, who scored twice, and fell to Linden 3-1 Thursday afternoon at home.

Linden freshman Sarah Ford broke a 1-1 tie midway through the second half and her team never looked back.

Fiebernitz helped Linden take an early 1-0 lead, but the Blue Devils answered back just three minutes later (17:21) to tie the contest.

Sophomore mid-fielder Sidney Scott was credited with the goal after she and teammate Sierra Bruder crashed the Linden net. Bruder was awarded the assist.

Lake Fenton attemtped to move the ball and play better position on defense in the second half, according to coach Lenny Glasstetter, but were unable to keep up with Linden's pace.

“We did do that, then we just got tired,” Glasstetter said. “I only have a couple of subs who could match up with Linden. We made a few mistakes and we paid for it.”

Defense aside, the offense could have used a few adjustments as well. Following Ford’s goal with 23:25 left, Lake Fenton entered the Linden zone just three times for one shot.

Linden outshot the Blue Devils 10-7. They also had two near goals ricochet off the cross bar in the second half.  Lake Fenton captain Linda Marchlewski made nine saves in net.

Marchlewski and the others Blue Devils will look to rebound Monday at home when they kickoff play in the Genessee Area Conference Championship Tournament. The team is the second seed sitting with a 6-1 record in division play.
