Lake Fenton Softball Team Expecting Big Things This Season

Here is a glimpse at the softball team.

Head coach: Amos Rinks

Players to watch: Allie Newman, senior third baseman, has one of the best bats on the team and proved against that she can do more than hit, she can throw. Coach Rinks said that her velocity as a pitcher is great and other players think that she can help provide some depth at the position.

Alex Wilkinson, a speedy centerfielder, drove in two runs in the second game against Byron last week.

Paula Valacak and Andrea Roe bring a quality one-two punch to the mound as the teams starting pitchers.

Last Year: Finished last season in the regional round of the playoffs.

What will it take to succeed? "We just have to keep practicing. I think we're only going to get stronger and stronger with more practices," Newman said.

Coach quote: "I think we have to take this one game at a time. We're beefing up our schedule to play some good teams. The weather is hurting that right now. That will be a better test of how we'll do in the postseason. We have a team that can put it on anyone any given day.”

Player quote:  "We work good as a team considering we have two new freshmen and a new pitcher. We're doing really good," Wilkinson said.

What makes this team special? "We have a really strong pitching staff, We have the skills to go far. Our team chemistry is really good. We all get a long well. That will help take us far," Valacak said.
