Linden Soccer Beats Fenton To Advance to District Finals
Fenton unable to come back after Eagles' take three goal lead.
The Linden soccer team gained some sweet revenge against Fenton Thursday.
The lady Eagles beat Fenton 3-1 to advance on to the District Soccer Finals after losing to the Tigers earlier this season.
“The team’s performance today was great,” said Linden coach Kevin Fiebernitz. “We played this team in the middle of the season and lost 2-1. The girls’ effort today was much better.”

The second goal, scored by Linden junior Ashley Porter, came ten minutes into the second half, a shot through traffic to bring the score to 2-0. Mary-Kathryn Fiebernitz assisted on the goal. Finally, ten minutes later, junior Sam Thornton scored Linden’s third, beating a defender back on a breakaway.

“I’m really proud of them, they tried their hearts out, there’s no doubt about that,” said Fenton coach Matt Sullivan. “The effort was there like it’s been all year. I give [Linden] all the credit, they deserved to win that game, but I’m very proud of the girls.”
The Tigers end the season 13-5-1. They
Fenton, after battling it out against Linden’s defense toward the end of the game, finally saw a goal with two minutes left. Senior Kristin Wing was able to get a shot off through the mob of Linden defenders in the box, bringing the score to 3-1 just before the game’s final whistle.
“It was just a great season, I’m happy for the seniors,” said Sullivan. “Every year is about the seniors and this year was really great, we came away with a (Metro League) championship and I’m really proud of them.”
Linden will go on to play in the District finals against Holly, who defeated Clio 9-1 Thursday, at Fenton 11 a.m. on Saturday.
“We gave up a late goal near the end there, but for the most part I thought our girls did a great job,” said Fiebernitz. “We’ve tied [Holly] after leading the game 3-1 and giving up 2 goals near the end, so we have a goal to come back and play this team again.”
