Local School Helps Other During Holidays
Holly Academy works with Salvation Army's Adopt-a-Family program to support several families this holiday season.

Thirty-one people will benefit from the generosity of Holly Academy staff and students this holiday season. For the sixteenth year, the Holly Academy community participated in the Adopt-a-Family project which delivers complete holiday gifts to families in need. Staff members embrace this project as it teaches students the importance of helping others while exhibiting the characteristic of giving. “Each and every year I am overwhelmed by the generosity of all the families who are willing to provide such a memorable holiday to others,” said Jennifer Melero, the teacher organizing the project.
Adopt-a-Family is run through the local Salvation Army. Each homeroom receives a wish list for a family member and students deliver wrapped gifts to the classroom. Many families donate gift cards which are given to the family member or used to purchase additional gifts. Melero and other staff members complete any necessary shopping and then deliver the gifts to the Salvation Army branch which delivers the packages to the families within a week. “The willingness of our staff and students to provide so selflessly to these families is yet another reason that Holly Academy is a school of high caliber,” states Melero.
