Top 10 Tips For Your Home After the Severe Winter

As it is with most of the United States this year, Michigan is recovering from one of the harshest winters in recent history.  A winter like we experienced can cause havoc on the maintenance of your home.  Take note of these top tips to return your home to its pre-winter glory, from NAHB Remodelers. 1.       Inspect Roof- check for loose, warped or missing shingles.  Also check to make sure the chimney flashing and any skylight seals are intact.

2.       Clean and Repair Gutters- Clear debris from gutters and downspouts and that they are securely attached.

3.       Look for Leaks- Commonly in the attic, crawl space and washing machine hoses.

4.       Clear Exterior Drains- Clear out debris for spring rain and preventing backups.

5.       Inspect Siding- check for loose pieces.

6.       Check windows and door seals- make sure the seals have remained watertight

7.       Patch Cracks- In concrete driveways, sidewalks and steps.

8.       Inspect your HVAC- Hire a technician if needed. Also the time to replace your HVAC filters.

9.       Check your homes grading- Make sure the grading of your yard slopes AWAY from your homes foundation to keep moisture away.

10.   Paint the exterior- Painting or touching up the exterior paint makes it look better and will also protect the home from the elements.
