2 Men Who Fled Ferndale Police Arrested

One of the suspects arrested in the two separate incidents Monday night and early Tuesday morning was on parole for a conviction of second-degree murder, according to a report from Ferndale Police.

A man on parole for a conviction of second-degree murder was arrested Monday night after attempting to flee police in his car.

The incident was one of two chases in which Ferndale Police were involved last night. In both cases, the suspects crashed and were arrested, according to a press release from Ferndale Police Lt. Bill Wilson. There were no injuries in either incident.

Aaron Bernard Herron, 37, of Detroit, was arrested after he attempted to flee Hazel Park Police in a Ford Fusion on Eight Mile Road into Ferndale. Ferndale Police assisted in the chase and then took over.

The suspect fled south on Gardendale into Detroit, driving through Detroit neighborhoods until crashing into a street sign at the corner of Pembrook and Santa Rosa. He tried to run away, but officers caught and arrested him, Wilson wrote in the release.

Herron was the only occupant of the vehicle. He is on parole for a conviction of second-degree murder and his license was suspended, the report states.

Herron was charged with third-degree fleeing and eluding police – a five-year felony – and driving with a suspended license. The Michigan Department of Corrections also placed a parole hold on him, Wilson wrote in the report. Bond was set at $50,000.

In a separate incident early Tuesday morning, police arrested Michael Kyle Jones, 38, of Detroit after he attempted to flee from police during a traffic stop.

Around 4:40 a.m., a Ferndale officer stopped Jones for suspected drunken driving. According to a press release from Wilson, Jones gave his driver's license to the officer and then sped away, heading south on Eight Mile into a Detroit residential area before spinning out and crashing into an easement.

The police car blocked Jones from fleeing any farther, the report states. Jones failed sobriety tests. He had previously been convicted for operating while impaired and has several warrants out for his arrest from other jurisdictions, the report states. He also reportedly had 13 suspensions on his driver’s license.

Jones was charged with third-degree fleeing and eluding police – a five-year felony – and second-offense operating while impaired. Bond was set at $50,000.
