When officers arrived at the home, they found two pit bulls and one presa canario attacking the 39-year-old woman in the driveway, according to police.

A responding officer used her taser, which momentarily distracted the dogs, but did not incapacitate them, according to police.

The dogs continued circling the officer, who was trying to block the dogs from the victim, according to police.

One of the dogs bit the officer on the thigh while she was trying to help the woman, according to police.

That's when the officer shot the dog, causing the dogs to temporarily run away, according to police.

While the officer was providing aid to the injured woman, the wounded dog and another dog came back and circled them again, according to police.

Another officer arrived at the scene and shot and killed the wounded dog, according to police.

The other two dogs ran away but were later captured, according to police.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital with severe injuries to her neck, arms and legs, according to police.

The injured officer was also taken to a nearby hospital, where she was treated and released, according to police.

Police said all three dogs were owned by the woman and her husband. They added the dogs were not registered with the city.

A resident inside the home told police the woman had taken in a stray puppy when the dogs attacked her in the home and dragged her outside.

The other two dogs are being held with Animal Control, according to police.

Police are still investigating the incident.
