Benefit Concert for Young Musicians

Axis Music Foundation

Axis Music Foundation will be hosting a fundraiser to benefit young musicians on Sunday, Dec. 11th from 2:00 pm – 4:30 pm at Local Kitchen & Bar in Ferndale. This event will showcase students from Axis Music Academy and all proceeds will go towards funding music education programs for less privileged children. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children and are available to purchase by visiting or calling either Axis Music Academy (locations in West Bloomfield & Birmingham) or at the door.

This year’s showcase will feature up-and-coming musicians Chelsea Schauffler, Christian Bouchillon, Zachary Hooper, Ethan Samuel, and Ali McManus among others. The featured student for this concert is Axis veteran performer Sami Mei, who recently released her debut EP titled “Puppets”. Sami is set to perform at the brand new acoustic singer/songwriter venue 20 Front Street in Lake Orion this Saturday. More information on 15-year-old Sami’s burgeoning music career can be found on her website samimei.com.

The headliner for the event will be Detroit’s own Escaping Pavement, who recently released their sophomore album titled “The Night Owl”, and have been tirelessly touring the entire Midwest and Canada in support of the record. Escaping Pavement is a bluegrass/folk/country/rock duo made up of Emily Burns and Aaron Markovitz. Their stated goal is to bring people together in this technology-based day and age and have people be entirely present to the moment and the essence of the human experience. Escaping Pavement will be donating their efforts to the cause in the hopes of contributing to those following in their footsteps.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to expand the ambitious music scholarship endeavor of Axis Music Foundation. The foundation will use all funds to introduce new student scholarships for talented children who may not otherwise be able to pursue music. Local Kitchen & Bar in Ferndale has generously donated their event space for the cause. There will be additional donation opportunities as well as a silent auction with prizes such as a Palace suite for a Pistons game, Splash Village passes, and local art.
