Coyote Spotted Roaming Pleasant Ridge

Squirrels, yes. A stray cat, sure. But a wild coyote? Not too often. Today, however, is the exception in Pleasant Ridge.

This morning, a resident made a call to the Pleasant Ridge Police Department claiming there was a coyote roaming the streets. Police responded and, in fact, there was a coyote roaming the streets.

"I have no idea where it would have come from," Pleasant Ridge City Manager Sherry Ball said. "But we've been getting calls about every half hour since it was spotted."

The coyote has been spotted in backyards and traveling near Elm Park, Poplar Park, Oakland Park and in Memorial Park in Pleasant Ridge, Ball said.

"(The police) have not been able to catch it yet," she said this afternoon. "We're advising residents to keep small pets and children inside at this time."

Ball said if the police are not able to catch the coyote, they'll have to call Oakland County Animal Control.

The coyote looks a little like a light-colored, medium-sized dog. "But it's wild looking, you'll know it's a coyote," she said.

"It's been running, there aren't a lot of places for it to roam."
