Ferndale butcher shop Farm Field Table has a half million dollar expansion in the works. According to Crain’s Detroit Business, the 1030 Woodward Heights facility will take over leases on adjoining commercial spaces and install a lift system and a new cooler, among other changes. They may also include a restaurant in the new space, but owners Mike and Matt Romine, who also operate Imlay City’s Mulefoot Gastropub, are unsure about that aspect of the plan.
Farm Field Table practices whole animal butchery, allowing them to sell wholesale to area restaurants including Detroit’s Grey Ghost and Takoi, Ferndale’s Voyager and Urbanrest Brewing Co and the Apparatus Room at the Foundation Hotel.
The partners expect to make $700,000 in sales this year, and hope to see those figures triple next year when the new facility is fully operational. Plans are in the works to hire additional butches, and the brothers will expand the space from 2,700 square feet to roughly 10,000. Along with their neighbor at the existing space, Provisions cheese and chocolate makers, Farm Field Table plans to set aside 2,600-square-feet of the new build to accommodate a market. Customers can browse that space for meats, cheeses, wine, baked goods and chocolate.
